What Is a Mobile Crane for Construction?

A mobile crane for construction is a self-propelled crane that drives onto your site, sets up on its outriggers, and starts lifting within hours — no foundation, no assembly crew and no weeks of lead time. Contractors use it to lift structural steel, precast concrete, formwork, plant and materials wherever a lift is too heavy, too high or too awkward for a forklift or telehandler.

Unlike a tower crane, a mobile crane does not stay fixed in one spot for the whole project. It arrives when you need it, works the lift, and leaves — or stays on a monthly contract if your programme calls for regular lifts. That flexibility makes it the default choice for low- and mid-rise buildings, villas, warehouses, infrastructure work, and any site where the heavy lifts come in bursts rather than every hour of every day.

We run our construction cranes with our own certified operators. You tell us what you need to lift, how high and how far from the crane; we choose the right crane class, check the lift against the manufacturer’s load chart, and bring a crew that knows how to work safely on a live site.

Construction Lifts We Handle Every Week

Construction sites across the UAE book our cranes for the same core jobs. Here is what each one involves and what we plan for.

Structural steel erection

We lift beams, columns, trusses and portal frames into position and hold them while your steel erectors bolt up. Our operators work to your erection sequence, so each member arrives at the connection point in the right order and the right orientation.

Precast concrete panels and hollow-core slabs

Precast elements are heavy, and they must land within millimetres of their final position. We match the crane to the heaviest panel at its furthest placement point, not just at the delivery truck, and agree the lifting points and spreader arrangement with your precast supplier before the first lift.

MEP and rooftop plant installation

Chillers, generators, AHUs, transformers, water tanks and cooling towers often need to go onto a roof or into a plant room with limited access. We survey the reach and the set-down point in advance, so the crane sets up once and places the unit in a single, controlled lift.

Curtain wall and glazing panels

Large glass and cladding units are light compared with steel, but they are fragile and catch the wind. We lift them with tag lines and specialist lifting gear, and we stop work when wind speed exceeds the crane's rated limit.

Rebar cages, formwork and site materials

On a rising structure, we move rebar cages, table forms, shuttering, scaffold bundles and bagged materials to the working floors, which frees your hoists and saves hours of manual handling.

Villa, warehouse and infrastructure work

We lift roof trusses on villa projects, place steel sections and cladding on warehouses, and set culverts, manhole rings, barriers and bridge components on road and utility projects.

Which Crane Size Do You Need for Your Build?

The right crane depends on three numbers: the load weight (including slings and lifting gear), the lift height, and the working radius — the horizontal distance from the crane’s centre of rotation to the load. Send us those three figures and we will recommend the class. As a starting guide:

Crane class Typical construction use Best-fit sites From (per day)
25T all-terrain Villa trusses, light steel, rooftop units on low-rise buildings, material lifts Tight urban plots, villa communities, low-rise commercial AED 950
50T rough-terrain Mid-rise structural steel, standard precast panels, heavier plant Unpaved or uneven sites, mid-rise projects, warehouses AED 1,650
100T truck-mounted Long-reach lifts on taller structures, heavy precast, transformers, industrial components Large commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects AED 2,800

Why a 25-ton crane does not lift 25 tons on your site

A crane's tonnage rating describes its maximum capacity at the shortest radius, with the boom fully retracted and the outriggers fully extended. As the boom extends and the load moves further from the crane, the safe working load drops sharply. A 25-ton crane may only lift a few tons at 20 metres. That is why we never size a crane on load weight alone. We check your heaviest lift at its real radius against the manufacturer's load chart, then add a safety margin. If the numbers put you near the limit of one class, we recommend the next class up rather than run a crane at full capacity on your site.

Plan for the build as it grows

Crane needs change as a structure rises. On many projects we start on a smaller crane for foundations and ground-floor work, then step up to a larger class for the upper floors and roof plant. This phased approach keeps you from paying for 100-ton capacity on days when a 25-ton crane would do the job.

Mobile Crane vs. Tower Crane: Which Suits Your Project?

Both cranes have a place on UAE construction sites. The right choice depends on how long you need lifting capacity, how often you lift, and how much space you have.

Factor Mobile crane Tower crane
Set-up time Hours — drives in and rigs up on outriggers Weeks — needs a foundation, assembly and commissioning
Best for Short programmes, bursts of heavy lifts, multiple lift locations Long high-rise programmes with continuous daily lifting
Hire term A single day up to a monthly contract Usually many months
Site footprint Temporary — needs a firm set-up area only while lifting Permanent for the project — fixed base and mast
Heavy one-off lifts Strong — high capacity at short-to-medium radius Limited by the tip load of the jib
Moving between sites Easy — drives to the next lift Not practical — dismantle and re-erect

Many high-rise projects use both: a tower crane for daily material lifts, and a mobile crane for the heavy one-off picks the tower crane cannot handle, such as its own erection and dismantling, large plant or oversized precast.

Daily Crane Hire or Monthly Site Contract?

We offer both, and we will tell you honestly which one saves you money.

  Daily hire Monthly site contract
Best for One-off heavy lifts, occasional lifts, short jobs Regular lifts over weeks or months
Crane on site Only on booked lift days Dedicated crane on your site
Operator Certified operator for each booking The same operator who learns your site and team
Cost Pay per day — no commitment Lower effective daily rate than repeat daily bookings
Flexibility Book as needed Scheduled; can step up tonnage as the build rises

A simple rule: if you expect to book a crane for more than two or three days a week over the coming month, ask us to price a monthly contract. Many clients start on daily hire and switch to a contract once the crane becomes a regular fixture on site. See our Daily Crane Hire and Monthly Crane Rental Contract pages for full details.

Matching the Crane to Each Build Phase

Enabling works and foundations:

we lift pile cages, sheet piles, precast pile caps, site cabins and generators, usually with a 25T or 50T crane.

Superstructure:

we erect structural steel, place precast frames and slabs, and move formwork and rebar. This is where most sites need a 50T crane or a monthly contract.

Envelope:

we install curtain wall units, cladding panels and roof sheets, with lift plans that account for height and wind exposure.

MEP and roof plant:

we place chillers, AHUs, generators, transformers and tanks — often the heaviest single lifts on the project, and the most likely to need a 100T crane.

Fit-out and handover:

we lift final equipment, landscaping features, signage and façade elements, typically on short daily bookings.

How We Keep Every Construction Lift Safe

A crane lift on a live construction site involves heavy loads, people working nearby and changing ground conditions. We control the risks before the crane arrives, not after.

Load-chart check and lift plan

Our team checks every lift against the manufacturer's load chart using your load weight, height and radius. For heavy, tandem or complex lifts, we prepare a written lift plan that sets out crane position, outrigger loads, rigging method, exclusion zone and communication method.

Ground conditions and outrigger set-up

Outriggers concentrate the crane's weight onto small areas of ground. We ask about backfill, excavations, basements and underground services near the set-up point, and we use outrigger mats to spread the load. If the ground is doubtful, we ask your engineer to confirm bearing capacity before we lift.

Certified operators and rigging crew

Our operators hold valid third-party certification for the crane class they run. We can supply a certified rigger and banksman (signaller) with the crane, or work with your own qualified lifting team. Either way, one person gives signals and the operator stops the lift whenever the load or the area is unsafe.

Inspected and load-tested cranes

We maintain every crane on a scheduled service programme. We provide current third-party inspection and load-test certificates on request, so your safety team can file them before we start.

Site rules, permits and UAE conditions

We follow your site induction and permit-to-work system, and we arrange road movement permits for the crane where the route requires them. In summer, we schedule lifts around the UAE midday outdoor work ban and the heat; year-round, we stop lifting when wind speed exceeds the limit on the crane's load chart.

What Affects the Cost of a Construction Crane?

Our construction crane rates start at AED 950 per day for a 25-ton crane with operator, AED 1,650 for 50 tons and AED 2,800 for 100 tons. Your final quote depends on:

Crane class:

larger cranes cost more to run, transport and insure.

Hire term:

a monthly contract brings the effective daily rate down.

Mobilisation distance:

sites far from our depots add transport time and cost.

Lift complexity:

tandem lifts, blind lifts or lifts near live structures need extra planning.

Additional crew:

a rigger or banksman from our team adds to the day rate.

Working hours:

night, weekend or overtime lifts carry a surcharge.

Permits and access:

road closures or authority approvals may add fees.

We quote the full price up front, including operator and mobilisation, so you can compare it fairly against any other supplier. For the complete rate card, see our Mobile Crane Rental Price page.

How to Book a Crane for Your Construction Site

1

Send us your lift details.

Share the load weight, lift height, working radius, site location and preferred dates. Photos or drawings of the set-up area help.

2

We recommend the crane and the term.

We check the lift against the load chart and confirm the crane class, daily or monthly terms and a fixed price.

3

We plan the lift.

For complex lifts, we visit the site or review your drawings and issue a lift plan and the certificates your safety team needs.

Construction Crane Hire: Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the heaviest load, the lift height and the working radius. As a guide, a 25T crane handles villa trusses and light plant, a 50T crane handles mid-rise steel and standard precast, and a 100T crane handles long-reach and heavy industrial lifts. Send us your three figures and we will confirm the class.

Yes. Every crane comes with a certified operator, and the operator is included in the day rate. We do not bill the operator separately.

Our rates start at AED 950 per day for a 25-ton crane, AED 1,650 for 50 tons and AED 2,800 for 100 tons, including the operator. Mobilisation distance, lift complexity, extra crew and working hours affect the final quote.

Choose a mobile crane for short programmes, heavy one-off lifts or lifts at several locations. Choose a tower crane for long high-rise programmes with continuous daily lifting. Many projects use both.

Yes. Daily hire suits one-off lifts such as placing a rooftop chiller or a single steel section. If you need the crane regularly, a monthly contract usually costs less.

Yes. We check every lift against the manufacturer’s load chart, and we prepare a written lift plan for heavy, tandem or complex lifts before the crane mobilises.
